Christmas Appeal 2018

We always make sure that we write a card for each of the clients that come to the meal as for many, this is the only card that they will receive.

We also make sure that we get a present for each client as well which they open during the meal.  We give out warm clothing (such as hats, scarves and gloves), toiletries, chocolates and sweets and other small gifts.  All the presents are wrapped the day before and divided into male, female and childrens presents.

How can you help ?

Christmas can be a difficult time for our clients as it reminds many of family, friends and relations that are no longer in contact or have moved out of their lives.

Grantham Passage provides a meal on Christmas Day for our clients and we try to make it as special as possible.  We make sure that we invite as many clients as we can to make sure that no-one is lonely on Christmas Day.

The hall is adorned with tinsel, decorations and a tree to make it feel like a proper, homely Christmas lunch.  We decorate the tables with crackers, napkins and party poppers and have music and singing.

Food is a huge part of Christmas for us all and we make sure that we pull out all the stops!  We freshly cook a full roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings for around 45 to 50 people each year.

All of the food is prepared, cooked and served by our amazing team of volunteers on Christmas Day.  Last year the menu was :

Starter - Homemade golden vegetable soup and freshly baked rolls

Main Course - Roast Turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, carrots, brussel sprouts, homemade stuffing (cranberry and sage & onion), homemade bread sauce and homemade cranberry sauce

Dessert - Christmas pudding, chocolate gateaux or pavlova with a choice of cream or custard

There is always enough for seconds and we want to make sure the clients are full to bursting before they leave!

As we are a charity that is entirely funded by donations from the local community we welcome any assistance in making Christmas Day come to life.  Each year we have more people attend the meal.

We would gratefully receive donations of either food or supermarket vouchers to allow us to purchase the fresh food during the Christmas week.  Our Christmas meal is freshly cooked so items such as :

  • Items for the main meal - Turkeys, sausages, bacon and vegetables
  • Items for the dessert - Christmas puddings, gateaux or similar
  • Items for the tables - Sweets, chocolates or festive treats

As we provide gifts for all our clients for them to take away, any items on the following list would be appreciated :

  • Male or female individual toiletries or toiletry sets
  • Disposable hand warmers, small first aid kits or similar
  • Bars of chocolate or sweets in general (our clients have a sweet tooth!)
  • Male or female small gifts or stocking fillers

We would be very grateful for anything that you could provide to make this a very special day.  We can arrange collection of items if this is more convenient for you (or you are unable to get the items to us).
